Can you not find any information on the NEU website? Sorry if you've tried that. Alternatively they might have the number at the KAR office as I know they do communicate with each other on occasions. You can pm me if you get nowhere with it.

The phone number for the NEU Hospital is 0392 675 1000 - they will be able to give you the number to the vetenary dept

You can just turn up on weekdays. They are absolutely brilliant, but take your credit/debit card or a full purse/wallet.
Remember, no matter where you go, there you are.

Near East University Animal Hospital will treat all injured/sick wild animals free of charge. Please note this is wild animals - all non-wild animals including cats and dogs and other pet's treatment must be paid for.

The hospital is open 9:00-18:00 Mon - Sat.

So if you hear of any injured/sick wild animals that need treatment please get in touch or take them along to the animal hospital.

At the moment there is no facility to keep these animals overnight or for an extended period, so the animals will only be treated at the hospital and then will have to be taken away.

They are working to resolve this too.

Hi Grouchy,
Do you know if they treat the street cats and dogs? For free?

I'm pretty sure that feral cats and dogs are not treated free as they are not wild animals in the strict sense... i.e. they are not naturally occurring indigenous species here. NEU are aiming to improve the lot of the endangered wildlife of the island.

It is very i8mportant that people realize the freebie is on 'wild' animals. In other words if you find an injured animal at the roadside, you can take to NEAR EAST asnd it will be treated for free. All others one has to pay. It might be helpful if someone in the know could post what the prices are for treatment of pets. And why on earth go to lEFGKOSIA IF RESIDENT IN gIRNE. I AM HAPPY WITH MY VET AND woULD NOT WANT TO CHANGE. I WENT TO DAY WITH A CAT THAT DEPOSIT SOME RATHER NASTY67 SMELLING STUFF IN THE CAGE IN TRANSIT. (Sorry caps stuck). She was fabulous - and I have used her for 10 years and she has never made a mistake as far as I am c oncerned.

Plus of course also, one has to ask how one could take an injured wild animal to the |Near East . It does seem a great offer, but produces challenges methinks.

Excluding cats and dogs - which are not wild animals - let's be clear.

A cage - such as one might use to transport a pet would normally be a good choice to transport an injured wild animal, now I know not everybody has one but we could let our neighbours know if we have one or know of somebody who does that could be pressed into action in an emergency.... most people will know someone who does have one.

You are right about taking pets beyond your own vet - why would you? I would suggest that people regard NEU as an injured wild animal resource and not a general practice for cats and dogs unless they live nearer to NEU than any other veterinary provider. They will not treat any cats and dogs for free so why take the animal on a longer journey than absolutely necessary?
