Does not look in keeping with a nature reserve!

Keeping donkeys in and thus out of the farmers' crops is not easy... the fence does seem a bit OTT but donkeys have a reputation for breaking down wire fencing so I guess they feel it's necessary.

I think it looks awful!! If you saw this in any other country.....There must be better materials and better solutions!!
As there are so many donkeys this side of the fence....I wonder if they think they can catch them all??

Sometimes you can't please all of the people all of the time. At least this serves two worthwhile purposes: to preserve the donkeys and protect local agriculture. Better than some of the monstrosities that are being erected elsewhere purely for the befit of those with more money than sense or taste.

What else could they have used? - wire netting would not have kept the donkeys in, barbed wire dangerous for walkers and donkeys and both equally unsightly. Timber or plastic would deteriorate in sun and salt air and need constant repair and maintenance as well as initial cost.

Karmels: I assume ARMKCO is the fencing shown in the photos? How strong and durable is it? Because my point is sometimes the cheapest(and even the more attractive) initial option (I've fallen for it too often myself!) is the worst long term because of the ongoing cost of maintenance/repair. This fence looks more like a crash barrier - and it may need to be because no doubt a few speeding cars will run out of road and crash into it. Is is paintable? A dull blue or green would make it slightly less obtrusive.

Ragged Robin.
You are correct, the fencing ( armco ) is the same as they use on the road barriers. It is galvanised so will not rust but must cost a fortune to import.
