The sad, sad news of the death of Laurie Oxley is gradually becoming known in North Cyprus, and has cdome as a huge shock to most who have known him over the past few years, whether as part of KADS, or in the case of Alan and I, as part of a Quiz Team (in the short term) or in other guises. He was indeed well known, love,d respected and will be equally missed in large measure.
Facebook set the ball rolling for many of us in passing on the news,l and Tony Woods,l himself a part of KADS set the ball rolling. As part of informing, included is the following, written by son Kenton about his father.Kenton Oxley wrote this about his father Lawrie Oxley:-
Lawrence 'Lawrie' Vaughan Oxley - 3/8/1933 to 5/1/2015
Mother and I have been trying to inform everyone individually, but this is very challenging given Dad was loved by so many. We also wanted to post something via social media before others.
Father passed away this morning in Cyprus peacefully.
I thought I would start with an answer to a question that I gave as a part of one of these 'getting to know you' things at work back in 2009.
..............
Who is your hero?:
The answer I gave was: My Father; Ballet Dancer, Actor, Soldier, Window Dresser, Set Designer, Theatre Director, and Costumier to some of the best talent in UK TV. I hope to lead half the life he has.
...............
Some of you only know Dad as a quiet, gentle, unassuming man; but, to me my Dad is someone (one of the lucky few) that made a success of being a bit of a rebel, if a quiet one.
Dad was a catholic Harrow school boy who chose to leave before he was expelled, run away to Ballet School, only to be conscripted into the army 2 years later. It says much about his generous, affable personality that he got on so well with his peers in each of these contrasting environments.
On leaving the army he performed on stage as a dancer, actor and singer, before moving behind the scenes in TV. Dad went on to have a long and successful career in the heyday of British television; working with greats such as Tommy Cooper, Frankie Howard, Benny Hill, Stanley Baxster, Dennis Norden, Bob Monkhouse and countless others.
In the later stages of his career he became know as an expert in being the constant, calm, quiet, and amusing support to performers that were British institutions.
And that is exactly what Dad will always be to me; the quiet, constant and most importantly amusing support in my life.
We will both miss him dearly."
TRNC will miss him dearly and KibKom sends condolences to Joyce, Kenton and all who will be left with a huge hole in their lives as Laurie's passing.
RIP Laurie Oxley

Amongst his many activities, Lawrie was a valued member of a small group of volunteers who run The Kyrenia Society library. He was a lovely man who was always happy to undertake any of the tasks on hand. We will miss him greatly. Our deepest sympathies to Joyce and all his family.

Re: RIP Laurie Oxley
Lawrie was a genuinely warm and friendly guy with an infectious sense of humour. It came as a shock to us to hear the news especially as I was with him less than a month ago. He will always be the dearest person we could have ever wished to have called a friend and will miss him immensely. I spoke with Joyce earlier and Lawrie was buried in Karaoglanoglu this morning
