Hot water advice

Are these water gas heaters good to use or any other options ? Heated my water yesterday was on for 1.5 hour and only warm. Is everyone elses taken this long as its so cold or have I got a problem :/

I had the same problem yesterday immersion on 1.5hr and lukewarm shower. Would also like to know anyone's experience with the gas heater, who supply's them and rough idea of cost.

Immerser on for an hour yesterday and hot enough for a decent shower - normally only needs to be on for 30/45 minutes, even though our solar panels are East facing. We had the hot water tank and element replaced about a year ago and I noticed an immediate improvement. The old tank had a load of silt at the bottom of it, it was about 3 or 4 years old.

We have a combi boiler,so instant hot water. I presume its the same thing as an instant gas hot water heater. We wouldn't be without it for the winter and even spring,.piping hot shower,piping hot water for washing your pans up. And you don't have to think about it just turn the tap on. No brainer!

How does it work im in apartment where does the gas go?

A lot depends on the distance the water has to run from the boiler before it reaches any taps or showers. As said above there was a long thread on this last year. Some people absolutely swear by them, ours has never been successful and are having it taken out because the distances are too long. By the time we have run over four buckets of water it finally comes hot and then 5 or 6 minutes later it runs cold and we have to turn off water for a couple of minutes and then start again. It is not, repeat not, a one size fits all solution and some houses are not suitable. Do what we should have done and have a proper survey. We were like lemmings and because everyone said how great the system was, we went ahead and had one installed and regret it.

Agree with message 4, we had a leak repaired under our boiler a couple of years ago and had it cleaned out at the same time. Just had a piping hot shower. We only switch on for one hour at this time of year and half hour will last two days in the summer.

Long life immersion heater that runs at a higher voltage???
Don't think so.Higher wattage maybe, all the ones I've had dealings with were all 3kw or slightly less.
Fit the longest one possible for the tank and use one made from titanium which is better suited to hard water.

We have one of the newer, longer immersion heater bars and our water is hot enough for a shower after 40 minutes from stone cold in this cold weather. 25 mins does it under normal winter conditions.

Demirdokan Dokan water boilers are fantastic if installed with a summer by-pass. Don't use the cold water to supply the boiler when you have a warm supply from your hot water tank, this will gave you hot water quicker and not use so much gas.

Sorry forgot to mention the cost of boiler, it was 875TL beats paying 330 for immersion heater.

msg 13 mine are titanium coated and far more effective as they are twice as long as the ones you buy here i have been fitting them for 6 yrs here and used to fit them in UK never had to change service un like a boiler witch needs regular checks and maintenance so once fitted you dont need to worry unless your tank goes then just remove and fit in your new one
It works out far cheaper in the long run

How do you know whether you have a longer element fitted. Ours went on the blink last year and another one fitted, which we were reliably informed was a longer one. To be honest it looked more or less the same as the original and I have no idea whether we were "done" or not.

We had a gas boiler fitted a couple of years ago Vicky and it has never worked for us, had a few people look at it, can't get the right pressure or anything on it - its crap ! total waste of money. Our emersion is taking longer than normal to heat up.

You will know when you have one fitted buy the length of time it takes to warm up and also the price charged
As you can see buy the good reports on here i am not wrong and please don't put them down because you want to attack our CO or sell your alternative product , I don,t for yours

We have gas boiler and the price to fit and supply 2 years ago was 1000tl and worth every penny. It takes a few moments to run hot but nothing like the wait from our original immersion tank, and we buy and have delivered the big tall blue gas bottles which we get through about 2 per year, the great thing is, when it runs out we use the small bottles until delivery, which is same day or next day delivery, so we're never without hot water. We have 3 bed, 3 bathroom villa and the furthest bathroom away from boiler takes longer to heat up but boy when it gets there my ensuite is like a sauna. Just recently I have experienced an intermittent problem where water stays cold, but if I turn it off and on again it comes through hot, I need it looked at but that will be the only issue with it since fitting and I wouldn't be without it!

sorry forgot the make of our immersion heaters are backer made in uk and length 26in with an inborn trip so if there is a power serge or tank runs dry it wont blow the element just re set the trip you cant beat them fit and forget

I would concur with the advice of changing the heating element. There is a good chance the element is furred up and not working correctly. 1.5 hours a 3kw should give plenty of hot water, Next consider whether you are getting a hot water migration into your solar pipes if you have them, if the panels are circulating tepid water around and stirring the warmer water cooling it down. Also are your pipes insulated and what route do they take? Is the water cooling down in the cooler weather.

Like a previous comment stated ours is connected to our hot water tank on the roof so if you get a little sun the water is not ice cold and the boiler works more efficiently.
It took a while to get it just right but now it's perfect every time and we just had it serviced for 100TL.
I think we paid about 1000TL which included the boiler, steel cabinet and all pipework and fitting.

Can you give me (via PM) the contact details of your plumber that contected your water supply to the hot water tank on the roof. We have had a gas water heated fitted and our fitter insisted doing it that way, it wont work. I'm in the Alsancak area.
