PiD, BRS are aware - no reaction yet. A couple of expats wrote to the Mayor, copied to Girne District Interior Ministry (GDIM)and the TRNC Interior Minister. The Mayor gave me 6 minutes of his time and did not answer any questions, I have also had a written response from GDIM which roughly translates to the fact the Government sets the rates charged, not the Mayor - so I'm not sure what that means. No other belediye is charging anywhere near his charges for meter, piping and water.

Thanks for the above.tomsteel wrote:PiD, BRS are aware - no reaction yet. A couple of expats wrote to the Mayor, copied to Girne District Interior Ministry (GDIM)and the TRNC Interior Minister. As is often the case here it all seems confusing with the GDIM saying the government sets the rates for water charge and the mayor seemingly setting a much higher rate.
Wish you and everyone who has concerns the best of luck with this. I hope things are resolved satisfactorily, in the meantime I will follow with interest.

We also fall under Esentepe area, unfortunately on one of the many unfinished sites. Hasnt stopped us getting water delivered etc for years, and we pay all our taxes etc...however reading this thread sounds ominous. I expect there are plenty of others in similar situation. We are only about 200 yards from the main road, and there is one of what looks like one of the water junction/outlet points right there I.e. the green curly pipe sticking out. Has anyone heard of sites getting water pipes connected up to villas where there are no made up roads? We will monitor this thread with interest and will be keen to hear if there is a group representing Esentepe ..

Orbit, there is no group representing expats/locals in the Esentepe area - it is unlawful to do so for non-citizens. You can only, like me, write and visit the Mayor. On my estate, there are 33 dwellings, of which, 4 are full-time residences. Others are holiday homes for expats and Cypriots, some are let and others are empty. Just how the Mayor will enforce his stated policy is a mystery.

Mains water continues to be rationed in Esentepe for the third week and I'm hearing it's not a technical problem it's about none payment of bills in the supply chain.
If true it's not surprising but very worrying for the future.

Just been up to Esentepe council offices, there is a problem with leaks on the main supply route, we will be on local water until the contractor has sorted it, up to 4 weeks!

Well that's interesting as I went up to Esentepe council offices today to say we have only had 0.6 tonnes in a week and were told there was a problem with the pipes due to the pressure with the Turkish water being higher and that the local tanks are empty but not to worry as we will have water back on in 4 to 5 days! "Plenty of water then" he said!
