Pensions
Is there anybody living here that has a pension paid into their bank and doesn't pay charges to have a transfer from the UK. I have just had my pension people on the phone and they want to charge me every month to get my money to TRNC. Is this normal? Your help will be very much appreciated.

Re: Pensions
We overcame the problem by having everything paid into UK account and then drawing out from ATM here. You can take out £500 a day if required, and we've found it the ideal solution, particularly at the moment as we draw out in Sterling and take it to exchange and have the favourable rates.

Re: Pensions
Not in TRNC but my pensions are paid into my account in Germany, and there are no charges involved.

Re: Pensions
I am not at the pension stage yet, but I have never had a problem using my debit card (uk Halifax account) over in TRNC for shopping, paying for resturaunt bills, hire car, fuel etc.
Currently my plan is to stick to UK banks as much as possible when I retire. Maybe transfering a small amount over each month to a TRNC account if I need petty cash, or drawing cash from an atm if possible.

Mine is paid into HSBC here in Girne - no charges over 5+ years in the place.

Re: Pensions
Depends on the bank I think and what type of account you have. I do the same as Sophie, withdrawing sterling at the ATM as my bank charges me a hefty fee if I withdraw TL from my UK Halifax account.

Re: Pensions
If you have an HSBC Premier account there is no charge for transfers and you can withdraw £1000 per day from ATM with out any charge(always assuming you have it in the bank!!)

Re: Pensions
I have a Nationwide account. My pension goes into it in the UK and I draw Sterling from the ATMs here using my Debit Card - no charges. Then go and change the ££ to TL at one of the many money changers.

Re: Pensions
Thanks for all the replies, I will have to open an account at HSBC when I am there and see if that works. That seems to be my best bet.
