Moving North to South

If we were to decide to move to the South would it be possible to take our furniture over or would we need to buy new over there, not sure how things work with regard to this.

Friends made this move (for tax reasons) some years ago now and took all of their furniture etc with them. I seem to recall that there was a lot of paperwork involved on both sides of the divide with the Customs but it was all OK on the day.
