Has anyone experienced loss of mains water since yesterday? We are on the fringes of Catalkoy past the Acapulco Hotel.

In TRNC you are very fortunate indeed if your mains is on all the time!! Some places do not get any at all in the summer so it is a very common occurrence for it to be cut off.

Every year it's the same, we have had a few switch offs in the last few days and expect a lot more than usual this year due to the very dry winter.

Bornunderabad sign. The only people I have spoken to over the years who rarely, if ever, get cuts in water and/or electricity, are those who live in Karaman or Bellapais. The rest of us poor mortal get cuts all the time. I doubt that army camps get them though!!

Don't you believe it. We often have the mains cut off in Karaman in the summer. Can't comment on Bellapais though.

That's reassuring SourBrandy, glad to hear the rumours are not true!! Perhaps someone from Bellapais proper (the village I mean) can let us know what actually happens there.

I am in Ozankoy between Bellapais and the village, directly in line with the Abbey. I am led to believe my water comes from Bellapais and it does go off frequently in the Summer, has already started.

Live near the town centre by the football pitch and there is no problems.
They need to keep the grass green for the next season.
We used to live in Ozankoy and had to rely on our well to produce enough water to run our restaurant, the supply was cut for days at a time.
The only problem it is not very clean, the fur in the kettle is not white but brown so we do not drink tap water as we did in Ozankoy, that if you get any??

Owl Lady.
Ozankoys water comes from Catalkoy, the old pipe was replaced 15 yrs + ago as it was leaking like a sieve, we has 3 months of bad water but in the end the quality was very good and was drinkable. We did not have a cold water machine just filled the bottles up and put them in the fridge.
You can not do this in town, so now we have a drinks machine ( not beer, Dam ).

Thanks Mel only repeating what I was told, but was many years ago. Obviously changed at some point in the past 14 years since my house was built.

Things are improving. During the first summer (2006) in my Karsiyaka house between May and October I received exactly 7 tons total through the mains, yet in the winter the water pressure was so great it blew apart my 2 strongly built (German) hose reels. Since Lapta took control of Karsiyaka the situation has gradually improved and we now get water twice each week - not always much but at least we get it.

It's a strange mechanism. They have a huge tank up on the hill and twice weekly they fill it and release it into the system - when it's gone then it's gone until the next time. In the winter that means almost continuous water but in the summer, with far more properties occupied and far greater demand from each, it can be exhausted in hours. Unfortunately for me we are quite high on the hill so we are the last to get water - only when all the gardens below us are watered and their tanks full and swimming pools topped up does it back up enough to give sufficient pressure to push water down our spur. It is further frustrating that they charge for a minimum of 10 tons every month but, in the summer at least, we never get that much.

But hey - I still love the place.

Didn't think you were allowed to top up pools from mains water.
