During a recent visit to see my wife's doctor regarding her Parkinsons, I asked him about support groups here in the North. He stated there were none, which surprised me I am sure there are a number of sufferers of Illnesses like Parkinsons, Dementia, Alzheimers and even Cancer.

I know that I have recently been struggling with my wife's illness and the effects it has on our everyday lives.

When speaking to the doctor, he indicated that he would be willing to participate if a support group was formed, discussions about the nature of these illnesses and pain control was a couple of items he touched on.

I would be willing to co-ordinate such a group if people were interested.

I can be contacted on 0533 862 4001 or by email emineden@hotmail.com

Emineden; We also found this a problem for cancer patients in the TRNC so we started on a monthly coffee morning, unfortunately we are unable to advise on Parkinsons but maybe there are a few of you that could get together to create what we have done with Tulips.

Tulips run a monthly non-fundraising coffee morning for cancer patients in Catalkoy or Alsancak (alternatively), it is an ideal opportunity for cancer patients to get together and chat about their experiences, any changes in the systems at the hospital, general support for each other as cancer patients etc.

These are proving to be very successful and we welcome all current cancer patients and also any cancer survivors so that they can hear what is available in terms of treatment in the TRNC should they ever have need to use them.

Our expat cancer support workers can be found at these coffee mornings and they are:

Jane Matter (West Kyrenia) - 0542 882 6063

Pam Kennedy (East & Central Kyrenia) - 0542 883 9100

Further information on these coffee mornings is available from Jane and Pam as above, alternatively they can be contacted on the following email address:
