Topten ......Haven't you got a dictionary?
It's 'Hieroglyphics'!
p.s It should also be 'there ARE monkeys',... not 'there IS monkeys'

This site has a built in spell checker. Try it out, spell the word wrong and it will underline it with a wavy red line. Right click on the miss spelt word and it will give options for the correct spelling.

It's hieroglyphics top ten, and you mean " it's" ( short for it is, not denoting possession), and "I'm" not I,m. Most people do not know how to use the apostrophe which baffles me.
Your punctuation isn't what it should be either.

The problem is spell checks do not tell you if the wrong word is used:
Where and were
Whether and weather
Here and hear
and particularly there and their are words frequently misused here
I have sat on my hands many times to avoid pointing them out, but my hard hat is getting so dented!
Fatouche: According the Oxford Dictionary it is "hiero" with an "i" from the Greek "sacred" hieros

Let's not take this too seriously. If a post is understood then in the main that is all that matters.
I have to say though, Marion's "Keyboard Problems" make me smile (a lot) but in the main I have a rough idea what she means.

The well known phrase of 'People who live in glass houses should not throw stones' comes to mind.
It seems that we have all emanated from differing stables of education, and the results are plain for all to see. Not only spelling (rotten keyboards like wot I 'ave) but also grammar.
For instance Chiangbill, you should have written 'wrongly' as it is an adverb in this instance so you have to shove that 'ly' at the end.
But I understand you perfectly and ,most of the time we all do O.K, don't we. Little gets 'lost in translation' .
Personally I am grateful at the acceptance of my' flingers' on the keyboards, with no time to correct, and I am also very happy that I have friends in the world who accept my appalling grammatical and spelling errors in their language (which I try to master, but am not up to O level standard.
l
~For me on a personal leve, I am with the 'Eats shoots and leaves' brigade, and that I don't like to see any language mutilated, but... for the forum all we need is love and understanding, cos I bet all the money I haven't got that we can all understand what each is saying!
Yeah????
Oh and I have new batteries in my wireless keyboard. Seems to help - a bit!

Wrongly There you go Marions. By the way what the bloody hell is an Adverb then eh. Did not learn that at my school, mind it was 100s of years ago, but it was Approved though.

Ha, ha, ha. You went to an Approved School, well then you are one up on me, I had to go where I was sent! And no one asked my approval!
An 'adverb' is something you add to a 'verb' and an adjective' is something you add to a 'jective' but no one ever told me what a 'jective' was - so we all have a lot to learn, innit? Or maybe a 'jective' is something like 'objective' so maybe I went to an 'Objective School' cos I oS:) objected to not being allowed to approve!

Yeah, come on Topten if you are complaining then you should get it right yourself! My pet hate is people using 'of' instead of 'have' e.g. I might of known it was you. I think this might be a younger person thing, but it is still a corruption of our beautiful language.

The only thing I passed at school was the gates, but managed to compile a very good bank account throughout my working life, If some one who posts on this web site is a bit uninformed about the correct English, leave it out as everyone knows what is being said.
There are a lot of people on this forum who know myself and my wife as we have lived and worked here for over 20 years, I do not hide behind a name as my user name was the name of our restaurant.
Now I rest my case, don't mind the flack. ( got banned from villa owners ).

And dead; it’s said like bed, not bead!
For goodness sake, don’t call it deed!
Watch out for meat and great and threat,
(They rhyme with suite and straight and debt)
A moth is not a moth in mother,
Nor both in bother, broth in brother.
And here is not a match for there,
Nor dear and fear for bear and pear,
And then there’s dose and rose and lose –
Just look them up – and goose and choose,
And cork and work and card and ward
And font and front and word and sword.
And do and go, then thwart and cart.
Come, come, I’ve hardly made a start.
A dreadful language: Why, man alive
I mastered it when I was five

ll smashing stuff. Definitely a day of 'eats shoots and leaves' and a lorra larfs. Great stuff.
Most interesting though is that reading these posts where I know who it is, understand it more, but where I do not know the posters, I am not sure if they are being funny or serious. One of the probs with Forums.
Guess there are no Brownie (or Soner) Points for Good English on this forum, but I needed it to get exam points. My generation got a mark deducted for esach spelling asnd grammatical error when it came to tests/exams. Doesn't seem to matter nowadays but at the end of the day KibKom is not about exams and tests, but about communication and helpfulness and sharing and all things good and nice!
And maybe it is good that my old English teachers are now in that heavenly school where lessons probably don't happen, apart from learning to play one of the most difficult of instruments- the harp. Or are they turning in their grave at the mutilations of their blessed 'madre lingua'.
But thanks guys for a Super Saturday Smile.

Re: Spelling!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Its a cliche that English spelling is a minefield. Plenty of intelligent, successful people have not been able to master it, and even those who think they can have blind spots and off days, and/or make typographical errors, particularly late at night in a hot climate with fingers sticky from perspiration and slipping on the keyboard.
However, if I may be serious for a moment , boasting of being uneducated and sending up those who you are afraid might be is not clever, it is pitiful because so much that is good about life is missed. Education isn't a matter of what school you went to, nor does it end when you leave school - it is a lifelong process and a matter of a modicum of intelligence and having an open and enquiring mind, and not sticking to preconceived ideas culled from the gutter press. Even for those who did not have adequate formal education (or who skived off ) there are so many opportunities (particularly with the advent of the internet) to make up. English is such a rich language As two posters have already said it is such a shame to corrupt it.
I am sorry to disagree with you again, Marion, but it is not knowing the posters concerned that makes it difficult (for me too!) to know which of the above are jokes or not. I sometimes re-read posts and wonder if people really mean to sound so aggressive or offensive, or if their vocabulary is inadequate, or whether they don't have the consideration to take the trouble to make their intention clear in writing, lacking the clues of face and body language. There are, of course, always smileys!
PS: Re spell checks: why can't I get the option of British English here, just American English?
PPs: Re spell cheques: I'd could do with one, preferrably spelled with a few noughts at the end .
