Rottweiller on the loose in Karaoglanoglu.
He keeps appearing near to Tempo supermarket. He is well fed, and I believe he must have an owner somewhere, but beware he is a cat killer !!!
I lost one of mine to him today.......if you know the owner, please ask him to keep his dog on a lead, at least in public places.
Or if you have lost your dog please come and retrieve him asap !!!

Metin, I am so sorry for what has happened to your cat! It needs to be stopped from running free before anymore animals and maybe small children are attacked! This needs to be reported to your local Belediyesi surely? Wendy BBB's other Half !

Sorry to hear of this Dawn, can you call your vet to get in the authorities, at least to catch him and check his microchip, if he has one that is. Sorry again for your loss

No sign of the dog today, that's why I feel he belongs to someone, as I have seen him here before, always running free. Not sure who to report him to, especially as he is not always around.

Can you not catch him and take him to the police station yourself, Dawn?

This is a classic case of involving Girne Belediye (Karaoglanoglu is under their jurisdiction) Slowly but surely dogs, whether they be owned or not, but are not tagged dogs, must be reported if they are running around free. The Belediye are responsible and it is up to them to do what ever has to be done (not put the dog down of course)

Re: Rottweiller on the loose in Karaoglanoglu.
The growing problem of stray dogs has to be tackled head on. Tagging and releasing is not working.
As a Black Lab owner myself it pains me to consider the destruction of any dog.
The most professional and humane dog home on the planet is in Battersea, London and they receive over 7000 dogs per year. Of these, one third are destroyed.
If KAR cannot find a home within a week they must follow suit. After a year or so I'm sure a waiting list will develop of people wishing to house dogs as the number of strays diminish and then the system will become sustainable again.

What has Kar got to do with a Rotty on the loose?
The tagging and releasing does work, its the ones that get dumped, the unwanted puppies thrown out, that is the problem, how many homes are on the island that will take a dog a week. Killing the dogs will do nothing to ease the problem as long as there are irresponsible owners on the island and irresponsible breeders on the island. I am appalled at the amount of dogs running loose, but most are not Kar dogs, all the Kar dogs are friendly imho or they wouldn't be released. I am not for compounds either, but its better than killing them and at least I know that there are plenty of us that will make sure the compounds are cleaned and dogs walked, if indeed this is the new ruling. just my thoughts. No need for a hard hat hedgefund, we are all entitled to our opinions,

Re: Rottweiller on the loose in Karaoglanoglu.
Thanks Lor51, if KAR takes in, what in their opinion, is going to be a problem animal, it is not released after being spayed or neutered, but kept incarnated for life unless someone offers it a forever home. Once again someone has chosen to highjack a thread. Why oh why oh why can't some people get it into their heads this not the UK and there is NO Battersea here and UK rules and regulations do not apply and cannot be implimented.
Now I'm going to go off piste!! I'm involved in a minor way with Redwings the second largest Horse Rescue charity in the UK and I can assure you, if you go on to their Web site, you will read about and see the most appalling treatment of those wonderful animals AND only the very worst case is a horse euthanized so forget about Battersea, wonderful institution though it is.

I am sorry but I don't understand how tagging and releasing dogs can help. The poor animals go without food and water until they cant take anymore. How is that helping?
Sorry, but that is how I feel.

Re: Rottweiller on the loose in Karaoglanoglu.
I am not getting into the euthanasia dispute , because I am still in two minds about it myself. However I would plead with anyone supporting it to think about the time the animal is kept before being "put down". There have been cases where a dog has been lost and the owner has been ill , or out of the country and mistakenly thought it was in good hands. A week is far too short to allow for an animal which actually has a good home to be kept alive. I would say a month at the very least. Anyone know how long Battersea keep the dogs? I know it isnt like that here, but no harm in using them as a standard where it is practicable.
With regard to message 6, am I missing an "in joke" or is this serious. I love dogs and usually get on with even difficult ones, but I certainly would not approach an unknown Rottweiler, or any animal of that nature, and I suggest only professional dog handlers should try. People claim THEIR Rotties are gentle, but that is because of how they are treated - all we know about this one is it kills cats.

Re: Rottweiller on the loose in Karaoglanoglu.
I think (not sure) that the dogs are dropped back to the area where they are picked up from. If the dog is picked up as healthy fed and watered then its obvious its finding its own nourishment or its being provided. Have you seen the tagged dogs in the harbor or by Café George, they are that fat some of them they can hardly move. I cant see Kar dropping them off in the middle of nowhere with no houses, cafes, hotels, etc nearby.

Can I just say as well, the thread isn't about KAR or killing its about a loose Rotty and does anyone know the owners. I am guilty as well for it going off topic. Sorry Dawn.

As we are now on the topic of street dogs at the harbour. I was so happy last week to think that one of the dogs " little boy" was to been taken back to England. These "saviours" were going to contact KAR and arrange for it to go to it's forever home. What has happened since this promise NOTHING!!!Why Oh why do these people do this?

Erm.... Think I will pass on getting the Rottie on a lead.....he is huge and rather intimidating. And he's not around today, so where does he go to ???
I still think he has an owner somewhere.
