Help for the Refugees
Once we understand a bit more about the situation with the refugees, I wonder if anyone knows how we can help with perhaps donating food and water for these poor people.

Don't think that food and water will be an issue as the Govt has control but clothing may well be very welcome - its getting on for winter no matter where you are in the Med now!

I sadly have to agree with karmels on this. Before we have even been able to get our act together, they will have been moved on.

Re: Help for the Refugees
Don't worry yourselves about these people. My husband was on the harbour when, those who chose to, were taken to be fed.
The local police were amazed at how well dressed and healthy they all were and at the fact that they all had large amounts of money on them.
I have immense sympathy for the poor souls in Syria who are in a living hell, homeless and wandering the streets or living in makeshift shelters in the cold, most of them barefoot and hungry because they do not have the money to escape.
Please, watch a couple of turkish news channels and save your sympathy for the genuine cases.

I read a posting on facebook today that said Akgünler had arranged for a ferry to take them to Mersin at 2pm yesterday.

Re: Help for the Refugees
Having had a very dear friend who was Assyrian - not a Syrian - from a country that no longer exists and who had no English speaking, reading or writing, could not communicate with anyone she met as none spoke her natural language. She was also a refugee and although she had money she had no country!!!! Nowhere to return to, no friends or relatives, totally alone in a foreign world!
My whole point here is just to say that because some refugees appear better off than others - all refugees deserve the sympathy of those who have countries to call home and can return there if they wish!

Re: Help for the Refugees
I agree Waddo. Those people must have been desperate to make such a journey money or not. I expect they had all the money they possess with them as I expect the Syrian banks are not safe. I think if it happened to us we would do the same. Take what money we had, jewellery, personal possessions, anything that would fit in a couple of suitcases. Trying to get to somewhere safe and not knowing where you would end up. Hoping and trusting that people/strangers will help us. Very sad.
