Problem with keeping on line! Instuctions needed for novices

Can anyone help with an internet connection problem that we have got,
We are laymen in the use of so need simple answers or instructions. The internet is with Aviva Exend and we use a Wifi system
We keep losing connection when we stop using the laptop and it goes into sleep mode and also when we switch the laptop off. The only way to solve these problems is to reboost the wireless router by switching everything off at the mains . This is getting to be quite a pain everytime.
Is there something to set to connect with the internet automatically or to keep it on. Probably a simple solution but one that we don't know,

If you go into settings, it should give you an option for modes. This gives you a choice of when your sleep happens.

What router is it and who installed/set it up?
