Can anyone recommend a gym in the Catalkoy/Girne area. I am a middle-aged female and fear entering an establishment full of lycra-clad youngsters. I only wish to use a crosstrainer a couple of times a week.

My husband goes to Bonny's Gym in Catalkoy. It is underneath 'the black and white DVD shop'. No lycra clad youngsters there! Usually very quiet. I think it costs 100TL a month.

We go to pumps behind the pia bella which is friendly and very large with a great variety of equipment and not intimidating. Good staff/trainers who will advise you if you require a personal program. They all speak english. We have been with them 4 months and are very happy.

Quite a few ladies use the gym in the colony as they have excellent facilities and a pool. Also a guy called Kevin takes a few ladies there I think he is very reasonable in what he charges and is professional unlike a lot of others I have used him and can recommend him .

Pop in & have a look at Club Fit in Karakum - turn into the road at Aladdin's Cave & it's on the right - just after Stormax (coming from Catalkoy) ~ very friendly, clean & good equipment. I go on my own and as a female I feel very comfortable there. 100TL per month
