Filmon buffering

Can anyone please offer a reason why filmon has started to continually buffer.

I would first & foremost have your router checked ..
I had to buy a new router ..

Below are a couple of suggestions as to how you can try and establish if the buffering is something that is the fault of your internet service provider and can be 'fixed' by them or if it is something outside of their control. I am not sure what internet provider you use, but its generic advise really (for anyone who does not know I work for Multimax).

If you are using or can access a laptop, try a speedtest to work out if it is related to that or not. Filmon bandwidth wise needs about 1mbs of 'speed', in SD (standard defintion), HD (high defintion needs considerably more). When you do a speedtest use either the speedtest on your internet providers website (if they have one) or if you use one like ookla / speetest.net then do not let it find a sever but choose one that is provided by your own ISP or if they do not have one then one of the other north cyprus providers. If you speedtest this way, whilst not using the internet for anything else whilst doing the speedtest, and you are getting consistently above 1mbs then it is almost certain that any break up you are getting when watching filmon are not down to your internet provider. If on the other hand the results show less than 1mbs consistently then the problems are almost certainly with your ISP and you should, imho, contact them directly, explain what the problem is, explain that you have done various speedtests (from their website or from a specific server on speedtest.net) and these are the result you have been getting.

You can also always try another 'source'. So if for example filmon is buffering badly for you, then try bbc iplayer or itv player or something like NTV. If you only get (bad) buffering on one service (like filmon) but its ok with others, then again this almost certainly means the problem is not to do with your internet provider. On the other hand if you get bad buffering on filmon AND bbc iplayer AND ITV player, then the chances are much higher that the problem is with your internet provider.

Keith, Thanks for your post, tried switching off the router and it made no difference. However what is strange to me is that if I persevere with it buffering it stops after about 20-30 mins.
Thanks Erol for the info and I will try and check the speed out. Results:- Ping - 15ms download = 2.05 mbps upload = 0.51mbps

Try changing the out port on the back of your router, there are normally about 3 or 4. Also with our set up we have a junction box just after the cable comes through the wall which has it's own electrical source, try taking this out and leaving for 20 secs before re-connecting.

2mbps should be enough for filmon (in SD quality not HD quality) to work bandwidth wise. I would try a series of tests, as the test are very short 'snapshots' of the speed at that time and what matters for filmon is consistency. If you are consistently getting more than 1mbs on the speedtest results then I would try and see if it is any different if you connect wired rather than via wifi. To connect a laptop wired, first disconnect from wifi (or turn wifi off on the laptop) and the plug a wire from any of the 4 yellow ports on the router straight into the laptop. You should then be on the internet 'wired'. If you problems go away when connected with wire and come back when you connect via wifi then we know that its the 'wifi' in the house that is the issue (and not the internet connection itself). On the other hand if it is equally bad wired or wifi then at least we know that it is NOT wifi distribution in the house that is the problem.

looking at the post from laptatony (thanks!), I realised that I had suggested powering down the router, when what I should have said (and what I meant) was to power down the 'dish' that connects you to your ISP. This usually has a separate little plug-top power supply adaptor that connects via a 'Y' connector or something similar, as laptatony mentioned.

Hi Barry, I pay Bortech but I forget who the ISP is now. I use a lap top for streaming. Tried disconnecting as suggested but no better.
Can't try Itv player as I don't have a shield for my vpn address.
