Is the new reservoir filling up?
It appears from recent posts that it has been a wet winter and I was wondering how the enlarged reservoir at
Geticoy (cannot remember how to spell it ) is faring. Has it filled up naturally?
When we were last out in October it was little more than a muddy puddle.

I haven't looked at it in the last month, but it will take more than a drop of rain to make any sort of impression!
I'll take a 'photo the next time that I go past, if no one else beats me to it...

Past that way this afternoon. There is a puddle in the bottom of the reservoir. A decent size puddle but that is all. As Keith rightly says it will take a lot more rain to make a difference to what is now a very large reservoir.

A few years ago, and without such a wet winter, the dam seriously overflowed and caused quite a bit of damage downstream. I would have thought that at least it would be back to its original level after all the rain we have had this time.
And to share a rumour told to me by a TC friend, the anchors that have been placed on the sea bottom have proved inadequate and the pipeline has moved. Consequently they need to build much larger anchors and replace the work already done - leading to further delays in delivering the promised water. Please note, a RUMOUR, but maybe someone has more reliable knowledge.

Re: Is the new reservoir filling up?
In years gone by the reservoir has filled up quite nicely during any wet winter then disappears over the summer, however this winter there seems to be very little progress in it filling up. I wonder if this is a deliberate ploy, have they left the sluice gate open/closed? Has it sprung a leak? Why is it not filling up?

Just a guess but the ground is still soaking up the water. Once it reaches saturation point then the reservoir should start to fill properly. Even with all the rain we have had, it still manages to soak into the ground in my garden so I would assume the same applies at Getcitkoy.
Would be interested to hear from anyone who actually "knows".

Certainly more water in there today from when we passed a week or so ago.
