Thank you Girne State Hospital

I recently had the unfortunate need to go for emergency treatment in the middle of the night and chose to go to Girne State Hospital, driven there by my hubby. I was seen straight away - probably because of blood pouring from a head wound - and given excellent treatment. My would was stitched and various small tests done by a doctor. The nurse who stitched my head spoke a little English, much better than my turkish. I was admitted overnight and had checks done every hour - by the same english speaking nurse.. Breakfast was brought to me in the morning, but I did not want any, so cannot comment on the quality of the food. I was taken from the ward back down to see the doctor in A & E. As I had also complained about my knees hurting, I was sent for x-rays and seen by a second doctor (english speaker) who said they were ok and I could go home. Both A & E and the ward were spotlessly clean , although the bed next to mine had obviously been used earlier in the day and bedding not changed. At the end of all this the charge was a big round number 0. I go back tomorrow to get my wound checked and dressing changed and will leave a donation as I am impressed by the treatment I received. Thank you Girne State Hospital.

I agree with you. Last week I had an allergic reaction to an antibiotic and collapsed. My husband and a friend carried me to the car and took me to A&E at the state hospital in Girne. This was the quickest way as 112 couldn't work out where we live to send an ambulance.
Immediately seen and treated in A&E and moved to the spotlessly clean ward in A&E.
Kept on a drip and monitored. Injections and blood tests and at the end of the stay no charge.
Efficient and friendly staff were very reassuring throughout what had been a traumatic situation.

I posted on here and also sent a letter to Cyrpus Today, which was published last week, also saying a HUGE thankyou to the A & E department in Girne. They saved my life. It seems a simple thing to say, but it is a fact! I suffer with brittle asthma, and have on 2 occasions in UK been knocking on heavens door, on life support the last time....so when my asthma attack started 3 weeks ago due to the smog/dust cloud, I can tell you I was S**t scared. My Doctors in UK had already told me that I could not survive another attack of the intensity that I had....so, the minute I realised nebuliser was not helping I was down there! They were fantastic!!! Put me on a Steroid drip, did blood tests, chest xray, everything, for 10 lira registration. I cannot fault them at all, and thank them for saving my life!! Only asthma sufferers can really understand sometimes just how life threatening this problem is.

I know Mrs Gee. Mine was an anaphylactic shock reaction. Each one is worse than the last and can be fatal and yes they saved my life too. I read your letter in the paper and had just had my experience. It is a huge relief to know that such expert help is available so near to home. Especially as the ambulance people couldn't understand where we live.
I have no reservations about Girne state hospital A&E at all.

Fortunately only needed to go there on one occasion, several years ago, when my dogs decided to have a scrap and I fell over. They went for each other with me in the way and bit both my hands(not intentionally)My late husband took me to A&E and I was pouring blood, seen to immediately. stitched ,anti tetanus injection etc. Called back a week later for (control) check up. Grand sum of 0,including /anti tetanus booster a year later!! Moral of this story ,let the buggers fight, don't intervene

Last year I had to go into Girne State Hospital and have to say that my experience was not a good one. I stayed in 10 days none of the nurses spoke English. They were using the same bed sheets for several patients for day cases. There was no privacy on main ward and I had to have a catheter fitted with no curtains round me and patients and visitors able to see. The food was terrible. I was then transferred into a private room which was better. However I did have a mouse keeping me company which they were not concerned about. I will never ever stay in that hospital again. I did however break my ankle this year and went to A&E cant fault that they were very efficient.

I have been told there is a donation box somewhere in the hospital, and as I would like to make a donation for the care I received I would like to use it. Anyone know where it is?
