Hi
I went back to the UK last week for 6 days only
I flew out of Ercan ( my residency stamp is on a piece of white paper )
Not enough room in my passport so it could'nt be stamped in
I didn't show my piece of paper.... NO problem
When i returned 6 days later, waiting at passport control
I went to get my passport stamped, didn't show my paper, but had it on me
The man looked and then said Immigration stamp
I said but I'm WELL over 60. He just said Immigration stamp
So i produced it, and went through
I wasn't going to renew my residency at the end of the year. BUT
after that it will be easier to just do it.
Thought i would just let you all know

If he literally just said "Immigration stamp", and you had no room in your passport, that could have been the problem rather than a lack of a paid residency stamp. What if you had merely been a tourist coming here on holiday? When one's passport is full, it must be renewed, you are not supposed to travel with no room for stamps to any country. Some would even deny you entry without a clean page for visa details to be added. The chap on the desk may not have had a good enough grasp of English to explain this.

It is only on the crossings from North to South that a visa stamp is no longer needed. I believe the over 60 residency exemption applies however you enter the TRNC so I don't see your problem.

Slightly off topic (sorry) but does anyone know if you have to have 6 months remaining on your passport when you fly into Ecan?

I would play safe & assume that it applies everywhere ..dani wrote:Slightly off topic (sorry) but does anyone know if you have to have 6 months remaining on your passport when you fly into Ecan?
You don't lose anything as it is added to the end of the expiring passport ..
I seem to think you can apply 9 months early ..

Re: Testing the water !!!!
My daughter had this problem last week, coming from Heathrow via Istanbul to Ercan. When she filled in the required information, she was informed that she could not enter Turkey without at least 6 months on passport. However as she was not entering Turkey it is not a requirement of the TRNC. So there was no problem, she transited in Istanbul and immigration in TRNC said nothing, just stamped her passport
