Faulty MAG250 box????

Does anyone know when your MAG 250 box is faulty? The reason I ask is because for the past two evenings NTV has been very poor. I have rebooted, been on line to NTV, they say they have no problems, Multimax say we are not losing "packets" the internet speed is good. I reboot the MAG box and its Ok for a while then goes wonky again, is there a shelf life for these things?

It is unlikely that it is the mag250 box but not impossible. The easiest way to work out if there is something wrong with the mag250 box would be to try the same channel on the NTV website and see if that behaves differently. If the web version plays ok but the mag250 does not then it may well be a mag250 issue (or cabling to the mag250). If both the web version and the mag250 for a given channel are equally bad then its pretty certain the problem is not the mag250 box.

Erol, Thank you, it works fine on NTV via my lap top, still breaking up on the TV, will check the cabling to the TV first.

Could it be your internet connection?

There was a notice from MM a day or two ago about slow speeds due to connection via Turkey, I have noticed some web pages slow from time to time but not continuously, maybe that is part of the problem?

Erol can probably shed more light on the matter than most of us.
The wife keeps complaining I never listen to a word she says ............. or something like that.

If its ok on laptop I would try the laptop but plugged in network wise to the cable than normally goes to the mag250 (and disconnect the laptop from wifi if thats how it normally connects). This should tell you if the problem is the network cable to the mag250 box or not. If the laptop is still fine when connected to the internet with the same cable that normally goes into the mag250 - I would then check the hdmi cable that normally goes from the mag250 to the TV. If the laptop has an hdmi port then I would try plugging the hdmi cable that normally goes into the mag250 into the laptop. If the laptop continues to play fine when connected to the network the way the mag250 normally is and to the TV the way the mag250 normally is then yes maybe you do have a faulty mag250 box.

Erol, thank you for your invaluable advise, I checked the cable from the router to the TV, I found a small part which is frayed showing the the wiring, I straightened it out and it appears to have corrected the fault. I will replace the cable, thanks again for taking the time to reply very much appreciated.

We have had dreadful buffering/freezing on all ITV channels for the past 2/3 days. NTV support say it is caused by bad weather but as I told them, we do not have issues with bad weather here at present, so it is obviously something else. We have spoken Multimax and our broadband speed is OK . Would suggest NTV are having problems transmitting ITV channels.

Muffin,
Thanks for your reply, we have had terrible reception for the past two days, not all the time but enough. I raised this thread because both NTV and Multimax are saying its not their problem, I was not disputing that. Its odd that I detected one of my wires had frayed, once I straightened it out the TV seemed to work, may have been a coincidence?
