Regrettably I am becoming increasingly disillusioned with life here, over the last few weeks there has been the government vet seen cruelly shooting at captive birds and a dog, the dog found hung from an electricity pilon as well as the normal everyday abanded starving strays, alongside that I read of the thousands of lire Turkey pours in here to pay the wage bill of government employees every month. Money well spent I doubt it !

Ardstrawray, that just about sums it up but there are a lot of people that care for the animals here & there was a protest in Nicosia at 6pm this evening.

Agreed there are many caring people regarding animals, but I do not think protesting is going to change the Cypriot mindset on animal welfare,

Ardstraway, I like to believe in a glass half full rather than the opposite, things may not change in my lifetime but I will do all I can to promote better welfare for animals the world over & especially N Cyprus

Last year in South Cyprus a little dog called Billy was thrown into a crusher by hotel staff and sadly died a few days later. Thanks to the internet and protests outside the hotel in question the story went viral worldwide. The government realised the damage it could do to the tourist trade and even though there is still horrific animal abuse on both sides of the island I believe things are slowly changing in the South, for the most part due to the dedication and hard work by several charities and the political party 'Animal Party of Cyprus'. Protests can and do work, it's just that the TRNC has a lot of catching up to do.

I couldn't agree more, they seem to have the same attitude to animals as they do to rubbish, just screw it up and discard it. Why???
