H M inland revenue

Be warned - yesterday my wife received an email purporting to be from the inland revenue advising her that she was due a tax rebate - she was advised to download the official claims form and return it online with information re her bank account details and credit card details - ITS A SCAM - delete it it staight away

I think most of us realise that HMRC would not contact you in this way.
Even though you see black clouds, there is always tomorrow when the sun will shine again

That's a big assumption given that a great many people now file their returns online and are actually informed, online, at the end of the process what rebate they are due or what they owe!!!! Thanks for the warning!

Yes Elli you are right. I got a genuine rebate that was notified to me on line last year, then a couple of months later I got one of these scams. As I get so many (scams) from Banks, Building Societies etc. I guessed what is was and didn't open it. The thing is, if you get a genuine rebate, you don't have to do anything as all they are doing is notifying you that it's going in your bank, so no need for an attachment.

Like everyone else I get huge amount of scams from Building Societies, Banks, HM Customs, etc etc. I checked with HMRC direct in UK and spoke to a senior administrator (earlier this year) and he was adamant that they did not contact customers via Email, only "snail mail" usually using either a Dutch or Swedish company, who tendered for the posting service. So you pays your money and takes your choice. One person has got a genuine Email but the Tax people say they don't do it!!
