Re: GPS and Roaming charges
You can now save google maps for a given area onto a android device (phone / tablet) so that they are available even if that android device is not connected to the internet.

If you're going where the Internet is slow, mobile data is expensive, or you can't get online, you can save an area from Google Maps to your phone or tablet and use it when you're offline.

Re: GPS and Roaming charges
If you have an android device with the relevant google maps downloaded and saved onto it, then you can turn off the internet connection (3g/4g - be it roaming or not) and leave on GPS. There will then be no charges but you should still be able to use the maps and the GPS to show you where you currently are and to plot a 'route' to another specific location.wanderer wrote:Erol thanks for the off line google maps but do I have to turn off gps as well as roaming internet?
GPS - this allows your device to know where you are. There is no charge for this.
3g/4g / 'roaming internet' - this allows the device to download maps, so that it can use the GPS info above to show where you are on the top of the map. There typically are charges for such data access. However if you have previously stored the relevant map onto the phone for 'offline usage' then you do not need this functionality and thus do not need to incur data charges.
Hope this makes some kind of sense. I am not sure I am explaining it that clearly ?
