"Fear Industry" returns to Cyprus @Theatro Dentro (44 Enotitos, Palouriotissa, Nicosia ) THIS Friday, 25.3.,2016 at 8.30 p.m.

Returning from its Tour in Germany, having been selected “Best Theatre Performances of Berlin Stages” (Zitty Magazine, Berlinale Issue, Feb 2016), the Performance “Fear Industry” will be staged in Nicosia for 1 Performance only before continuing its European Tour to Gothenbourg, Athens and Stuttgart.

What are we afraid of? The performance explores the concept of fear and its orchestrated manipulation through economic and political forces, its dissemination by the media and its subtle proliferation in contemporary society.

2 performers and 1 mezzo-soprano reveal a living archive of 21st century fears: we now fear anything from killer bees to pedophiles, deadly diseases and online spying, avian flu, old age and mad cows, immigrants, anthrax, wrinkles, environmental collapse, and, lest we forget, terrorists.

The performance, staged in English with 2 actors and 1 mezzo-soprano, intertwines theater and stand-up performance with fragments of Live Arias and Choral Works (Schumann, Purcell, Lang, Wolf, Pärt) to project concepts of real and imagined fear perceived in today's society. The work proposes a "living archive", combining personal stories, analytical context, and historic speeches to shed light on the origins of fear and the social, political and cultural motivation for its amplification and manipulation.

The role of the Protagonists ist cast with Marios Ioannou, winner of the "Best Male Actor Award" in Greece (Thessaloniki Film Festival).

Zurück von der Deutschlandtournee und ausgewählt unter den “Besten Aufführungen auf Berliner Bühnen” (Zitty Magazin, Feb 2016), kommt die Performance “Fear Industry” für 1 Vorstellung nach Nikosia um sich dem Phänomen der Angst und dessen Manipulation durch Wirtschaft und Politik, ihre Verbreitung durch die Medien und ihre subtile Zunahme in der gegenwärtigen Gesellschaft zu stellen.

Zwei Performer und eine Mezzosopranistin zeigen ein lebendiges Archiv der Ängste des 21. Jahrhunderts. Heute fürchten wir uns vor allem und jedem: vor Killerbienen und Pädophilen, vor tödlichen Krankheiten und Cyberspionage, vor der Vogelgrippe, dem Älterwerden und Rinderwahnsinn, Immigranten, Anthrax, Falten, Klimakatastrophe und, ja, vor Terroristen.

Wie wurden wir Teil dieser Angstmaschinerie, die unsere menschliche Existenz auf die Erwartung von Unglück reduziert?

„Fear Industry“ verknüpft Performance, Schauspiel und Opernelemente und platziert unsere isolierte Existenz und die Manipulation unserer modernen Ängste in die musikalische Welt von Lang, Purcell, Wolf, Schumann und Pärt. Historische Reden, persönliche Geschichten, analytische Inhalte, youtube-Bekenntnisse und Alltagsszenen werden zu einer durchdringenden Mischung öffentlicher Stellungnahme und Intimität verdichtet. Dabei wird Stand-up Performance mit stilisierten Bewegungen kombiniert, um den Drahtseilakt zwischen unseren instinktiven Ängsten und den durch unsere Umgebung manipulierten und vergrößerten sichtbar zu machen.

Die künsterlische Leitung freut sich als Protagonisten Marios Ioannou, der den prestigeträchtigen Preis des "Besten männliche Schauspielers" in Griechenland erhalten hat (Thessaloniki Film Festival), gewonnen zu haben.
