I have concerns that it's not the same paint you would buy in the UK.
Sub standard paint in an Hammerite tin/label.

Re: Hammerite paint cost?
I went on the advice of Keith and bought Hammerite paint for my iron stairs and gates. I paid 50TL for a 1 litre tin purchase from DIY store in Catalkoy. I then got a very good painter to have the stairs and gates painted. It looks great. I am returning back to TRNC in May and will let everybdy know again how the stairs and gates have bared up! My villa is 50 meters from the sea.

I also had the stairs and gates under coated with rust prevention paint as advised by members of the forum, so lets see whether this has made a difference

Re: Hammerite paint cost?
you cant compare 2 different jobs and if you had to employ a great painter to stick on a bit of hammrite paint you must be mad and undercoat is a waste of time they are all rusty and always will be what a laugh a great painter cant believe it
Unless you change to polished aluminium just keep painting but use your local pacie not Leonardo Divinchy

I used the term 'greater painter because he painted the outside of the villa for me last year which I was very impressed with and painting the gates and stairs he did for free!

Re: Hammerite paint cost?
I've previously used the so called Hammerite and found it only lasts around 9-12 months so I have my doubt about it's. validity.
I stopped using it some time ago.

Re: Hammerite paint cost?
If anyone has bothered to look at the previous post on this subject, they will know that recommendations were made regarding chemical 'passivators' which convert (iron) rust to an inactive compound.
Once this treatment has been applied, and a waterproof coating of paint applied over it, then rust cannot continue to develop, as the conditions necessary for the oxidation of iron - Oxygen and Moisture - are absent.
We are not talking about a simple undercoat, but a proper passivation treatment.
Obviously, the quality of the top coat of paint is relevant, because if it does not present an impermeable barrier, then either air, or moisture, or both, will pass through, and the rusting process will continue.
If anyone thinks that they have been supplied with a deficient or counterfeit product, then they should contact the manufacturers / suppliers as well as Trading standards...

Re: Hammerite paint cost?
Hi thanks for all the replies I live 50m from the coast of Scotland and Hammerite lasts a bought 5 years. But the first time I used it I never used a red anti oxide undercoat and it lasted about two years. The new place in Cyprus I'm about 300m how the crow flys. I've sshhh taken the red oxid paint over, but was not wanting to take Hammerite. The price is about the same as uk then cheers all

Muzer, if the Fertan Paint Protection does not work which I have used ( I will see when I go back in May) can I get the Red Anti Oxide Paint in TRNC or would I need to take some over?

Warning...
Tins of paint in checked baggage?
And this is OLD NEWS
17/01/2009
Flammable liquids and paints are specifically prohibited by IATA (International Air Transport Association) DG regulations and you could get into extremely serious trouble if you tried it. Don't forget that hold baggage is scanned behind the scenes and it would almost certainly be picked up.

Hi daniz I don't know but I presume you can get it in the trnc. How good it is I don't know. Navek your right about flammable liquids . The amount of woman and men who carry hairspray in their suitcases is more flammable than paint but seem to get through. It's amazing what gets through a scan. But hay hoe.
