Firstly let me say this is not a complaint about the security, I welcome it if it prevents a disaster. I thought it would be useful to let forum members know about the additional security checks we went through at the gate for the Edinburgh flight on Thursday. We went through the normal security after coming off the Ercan plane and then at the departure gate our passports and boarding cards were examined on entry, we were then directed to a second desk where our passports were scrutinised again. The next step was a table one side for ladies and the other for men where our hand luggage was examined and mobile devices examined. Mobile devices which qualified to go on the plane but not as hand luggage were taken and registered for returning on landing. There were some devices which were confiscated for destruction, I do not know what they were. After the hand luggage check we were told to stand with arms outstretched and were tested with a tape which picked up explosives.
Despite all of this and a pretty full flight the plane left and arrived on time.

Well done to them. How can any of us complain about rigid security - one day it could save our lives - so good on them

If its convinced me of one thing its this.........I'm going to pack any and everything that is vaguely battery operated and go back to good old fashioned books made of paper and puzzles that need my brain and pencil and paper to solve. Unlike a lot of people I for one won't have withdrawal symptoms, but I know some who will!!
