Lefcosia state hospital, oncology dept.

Yet another amazing day in sunny Cyprus.
Thanks to Tulips, Jayne and Raziye, we were steered to the oncology dept. at Lefcosia state hospital. Wow, were we impressed.
Today we met this amazing doctor, who patiently spent over an hour explaining Jeffs' symptoms and the treatment diagnosis, in perfect English!!!!.
We then went to the cafeteria next to A&E, where we had a lovely nescafe and bulgar kofte, also met Harun Said,(the owners' son) who works there, he speaks perfect English too.
If you need anything translated, medical etc., he can do that, also photocopying.
Feeling very blessed.

The reason for this post...... for all you men out there who aren't going to get it.................
go and have your PSA test, prostrate cancer can be silent, get it checked... please.

Hi I am in the same situation and entirely agree with you comments. The State hospital staff and Doctor have been really above and beyond in helping me and my wife to understand the situation we find me in and where we go from here. I have to say also that I started my Prostate journey with a full medical check at Near East and the doctors and staff there have also been absolutely great. Absolutely echo your words to all men out there who like me have put it off for years - please don’t. And if I may, to all wives out there of men like me who “won’t” go to get checked please strongly encourage them to do so - GO!!

Keith, I know of at least three men who are going to get there's checked now, so fingers crossed.

For those men thinking they are far too young. I was in my mid 50's and a good friend of mine was slowly dying of prostate cancer despite all the treatment. He was naturally nagging all his friends to go and have a PSA blood test at their GP surgery because he'd wished he'd done that earlier. Sadly his cancer had spread by the time he did and he has since died. Even though I had no symptoms I went to my GP to placate my friend. She was sceptical of no symptom PSA tests 'they can be unreliable and give false positive results' but my wife insisted and the blood test is done. A few days later the same GP was on the phone asking me to go and see her asap. Long story short, I did have aggressive prostate cancer which I'm pleased to say has been successfully treated (in the UK) with radio & brachytherapy. I do, literally owe my life to my departed friend. Advice, do have an annual PSA test once you get to 50. If caught early, it can be successfully treated.
