Leaking Roof Terrace- HELP!

Hi folks - does anyone have experience of dealing with the problem of a leaking roof terrace?
What could the repairs entail - disruption - cost etc and who sorts it all out?
At present in my house, it appears to be some water running down the back of the chimney ( in between the fireplace and the external wall)
Many thanks for all help offered
cheers

Mine has some silvery rubber stuff applied to all areas of the roof, it is really good (couldnt say who did it it was on before I bought it).
Another useful trick is to check what is happening up there during a downpour and where the water is going. You can then set up some gutering to direct the water off the roof.

I'm going to do this as I have a couple of minor issues, plus I am going to collect this water into a water butt for the garden.

Is it a tiled roof? If so the only safe way is to do what I and a few others have done and that is to rip it all up and do it again properly. Not what you wanted to hear but if its as bad as it sounds is probably the best option for you. I wont bore you with all the work involved as you may not have a tiled roof terrace. 2-3 days work if it is

ChatalkoyCrish: I think they call the stuff: izirasyon. it is like a layer of tar which they heat with a blow torch and it melts onto the area applied to.

Journey1, can you communicate in Turkish by any chance, I could recommend a local to you but speaks no english.

If you are talking about a flat terrace and it's really bad then there doesn't appear to be a cheap method of curing. Unfortunately a lot of builders lay the tiles on a sand surface and then use grouting between the tiles. Eventually the grouting deteriorates and you get water ingress. This in turn is absorbed by the sand and eventually works its way into your property. Lots of people will offer temporary fixes and it is a minefield if you have severe water leaks. Whatever the problem it needs to be cured pdq before the rainy season starts with a vengeance. Good luck.

Hi everyone
A huge thankyou to all of you who have answered my plea - I have taken note of all.
My house is now 10 years old and this is the first time I have had a problem with the roof terrace but I appreciate it will need to be repaired asap.
Presently I am in the UK but I thankfully have good folks checking on everything for me.
Soner - firstly, congratulations on running a super helpful forum - well done to you and your colleagues
secondly, - one of my many mantras include 'Please God let me wake in the morning and be fluent in Turkish' - sadly still some work to be done on that ........but at least I know the alphabet despite my son asking why is it still on the kitchen wall some 3 years later!

i posted before but it seems to have gone from here? so i will say again do it your self use jotun roofguard, you just need a clean surface to paint it on, do it proper and save your self lots of money, and know its done the way you want, rather than hoping the builders will get it done, good luck.
