New hotel in Bacheli.

According to Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Kibris Star’ this contravenes a 2009 law which states that no new casino licences should be granted in Kyrenia district as there are already many operating in town.

However, the government has given the green light for a new casino, after an application was made by Wintersun Investments. The granting of the licence was published in the Official Gazette for the casino which will be part of a new 5-start hotel in the village which lies just over 21 miles east of Kyrenia.

Does the North need another hotel ?

The North, maybe not...… most hotels are in Kyrenia & the West once past Catalkoy & past Elexus there are very few that I can think of. Having had an apartment Tatlisu way there isn't a lot. That is why I chose it tbh

Doubtful yes and no. Very rarely do the people staying in these large hotel complexes venture outside the hotel grounds.
Cally we chose Catalkoy because there were no hotels really apart from Acapulco. Then The Malpas appeared and then Cratos appeared and then Elexus and then the bars appeared with their music, the Lodge, Sea Angle, Soyz and the quiet village was no more, so it goes on. One hotel planned at the moment for Bacheli but wait and see what happens over the next few years.....

Wait till the sleepy village resounds to the thump, thump, thump of the accompanying disco up to 4 am 7 days a week and the local families break up due to gambling addictions draining scant finances and then marvel at the bums on seats... no doubt some brown envelopes have secured the go ahead...

Where's the sewage going? Where's the water coming from?

Esentepe district needs this like it needs a hole in the head....

Although not great news for the residents of Bahceli, development is inevitable I guess. I wonder where the exact location will be?

How very, very true! Very few hotel/casino guests will venture outside of the hotel complex, ergo, very few restaurants will benefit - if any. Bahçeli area is just sleepy hollows with few facilities other than local eateries. However, builders' dumping has spoilt it and the Esentepe Mayor denies it is his responsibility to clear it up (this will surely add to the ambience of a new hotel/casino). Interesting also where the water will come from as the Esentepe Mayor still demands over 5.7 K TL per household for connection and metering, yet often water does not flow. As to sewage, road usage etc!!!

It would appear a lot of the coast line from Esentepe to Tatlisu is rapidly being developed .

It’s a pity the government don’t insist on the numerous unfinished buildings being finished before any new development....it’s a shambles.

Moan, moan and moan some more that really is what certain contributors do 24/7 and it is getting so boring and tedious. If you don't have some constructive or pleasant to say about this wonderful yet imperfect place I would IMHO suggest that you basically zip it for a while and if it is so terrible for you that you get on the next plane out of Ercan (or Larnaca as you seem to like them next door more).

Perhaps we should petition Soner for a 'Be nice to TRNC' month........ All in favour say 'Aye'.

Unhappy with others' opinions - don't read the posts or follow your own advice and " I would IMHO suggest that you basically zip it for a while and if it is so terrible for you that you get on the next plane out of Ercan (or Larnaca as you seem to like them next door more)". Do have a nice day by the way!!

I have heard that they are going to put on all you can eat and drink for 5TL - but only for expats. There, everything you ever wanted! It's also going to be a five storey hotel but 4 of them are underground, it has it's very own water supply from another pipe from Turkey, all the waste is being recycled and made into fertiliser so that the surrounding area can be covered in new trees, taxi services are going to be free as far away as Lapta, cruise ships are planning to land customers at Esentepe Jetty, a new road is being built directly across the top of the mountains into Nicosia, pigs are flying in to save transporting illegal meat from the South - trials have already been conducted!!! That's all I have for now, oh a rainbow, I am off to pick up another pot of gold!!!! It is called progress - you may not like it but think of the things you would have to do without it, it's around 3 weeks by boat to here from UK if progress had not brought you planes that would have been the way, on the bright side, they would have been Direct Ships - lol.

That all sounds fantastic, will there be a disco for us golden-agers, if not we'll probably give it a miss and carry on patronizing Cratos?

Of course there will be a disco and you will be able to hear it from Lapta as well, big bonus for everyone who can't sleep at night, you can sit inside with your doors and windows closed up tight and listen to it all - lol. The future is looking rosie!!!
