Atlasjet flight KK912 to Istanbul was grounded yesterday at Stansted Airport according to airport officials.

Further to the UK compensation judgement of last week which requires Atlasjet to pay compensation to 669 people, the plane was grounded at Stansted yesterday afternoon due to the outstanding settlement. The plane, destined for Istanbul and then Ercan, was finally permitted to take off after 2.5 hours delay. The 669 claimants whose flight plans were disrupted by the bankruptcy of Cyprus Turkish Airways are still awaiting payment, however no further complications are expected, according to Hamza Saner, TRNC Public Works and Transportation Minister.

Ironical isn't it that the delayed flight had a load of officials on board who had been to the World Travel Market event in London. Also on board the TRNC under-secretary for Tourism.

Ironic that Atlas came to the assistance of the crooked TRNC government following the collapse of CTA and now they are paying the penalty.

Because they took over CTA flights and there were problems they were cited alongside CTA, CTA were the government owned airline so the government should pay. However because the country is bankrupt with no assets in the UK Atlas became easy prey for the lawyers. There were threats in the press last week that an Atlas aircraft would be seized and obviously this is what happened today so will Atlas risk further seizure or cancel their flights to UK.

Maybe this is why they have already cancelled some future flights. IMO a nail in the coffin for competative priced flights in future.

Just found out that our flight to Stansted on 20th has been cancelled, so they are offering 19th or 21st.......will wait to see if they get cancelled too, plus our return flight on 30th.....all hangs in the balance I think!.
