Hot water solar panels

Like most places in NC, I have a rooftop hot water tank with 2 solar panels.
Does anyone know exactly how the system works?
I.e. Does the water flow from the cold supply to the hot water tank then through the pipes in the panels as required?
Or, does it flow from the cold tank through the pipes in the panels then is stored in the hot tank?
Or is there some other mystery?

The water from the cold tank fills the hot tank then into the solar panels . If you have a pressurized system it goes straight to the hot and cold tank witch then flows through the solar panels
