Küçük's lawyers still in court defending results of Oct 21
I thought I should keep you updated on the saga of the UBP's yes-it's-valid/no-it's-not leadership vote results. Contrary to what Kibrisonlinehaber wrote last Friday (and consequently what I conveyed to you guys) Küçük's lawyers are still in court claiming that the results of the vote conducted on October 21st should stand. And they have until December 10th to defend their case.

According to Kibrisonlinehaber the second attempt for the delegates of the UBP (TRNC's party in power) to vote for their party leader will be on Sunday, December 2nd. In the first round (in October), Prime Minister, İrsen Küçük, had slightly more votes than his rival, Ahmet Kaşif, but it was judged not to be a big enough majority.
The president, Derviş Eroğlu, continues to support Kaşif in his bid for the leadership. Opposition parties have stated that the UBP's internal bickering is not good for the country and they have all called for early elections in March.

Re: The "second round" of UBP leadership vote to be next wee
I hope Kaşif wins. Many who stayed away from the voting last time were suspected to be Kaşif supporters some of whom held key positions in current government. They kept away just in case Küçük won with a crushing victory - something that could cost them their jobs. Now that they realise Kaşif can win with thier votes, I bet there will be a full house on 2nd of December and Kaşif will win.
In any case, if Kaşif looses, there will be a meltdown in UBP and an early election will become inevitable, possibly Kaşif and followers resigning and forming a new party reinforced with some of the MPs (ex-UBP members) who had strayed but are still very popular (such as Tahsin Ertoğruloğlu).
BTW, I am very much looking forward to getting together when you are here in the new year, please contact me

Re: The "second round" of UBP leadership vote to be next wee
I am not very good at politics but I am eager to learn as having gained citizenship, through marriage, I will be eligable to vote in the next main elections.
Am I being a bit thick here as I cannot see the logic.
Why would people, who wanted a particular party to win, stay away from the voting incase the other party won?
Does it not follow that if they don't vote for the party that they want, then the other party is bound to win?

Hi Blue Butterfly, the (100 or so) UBP delegates were voting for someone who will lead them into the next election - they weren't voting for a party.BLUE BUTTERFLY wrote:Why would people, who wanted a particular party to win, stay away from the voting incase the other party won?
In light of what I've written above I'm sure you'll now fully understand what Big Oz wrote :BLUE BUTTERFLY wrote: Does it not follow that if they don't vote for the party that they want, then the other party is bound to win?

I could not believe in talking to a TC friend recently how intensly disliked Kucuk is. Reading the press reports and hearing comments from those who have met him, he is a bully of the first order with little regard for anyone but himself. Many will remember he originally did not even want the job but then he figured what the financial rewards were. IMO He probably cares little about winning the next general election. He is a disgrace to the family name and the sooner he goes the better TRNC will be.

I am not being oronic, but is the other one any better? Is there anyone out there who can take this country by the scruff of the neck and shake some sense into its leaders?

Again asking those that have the vote, the answer is there is no alternative. The whole lot are incompetent and one good reason for Turkey to take charge before the place disappears under the weight of greed and nepotisim. The average town council in UK would manage TRNC better.
