Green Hill Cemetery UPDATE - all is now well

You mayhave read on another posting that a widow visited her husband's grave and was delighted to see that all is now well. The Cemetery committee has asked me to post that it is official that the graves and pathway have now been repaired and all is now well.. The cemetery is now accessible (four wheel drive is always) best) and all visible signs of damage from the storm have now been repaired.

A huge thank you to the Cemetery committee from all .

As a journalist you would like to think that Marions would proof read her own postings before pressing the send button.

You are both absolutely correct. Unfortunately, I don't proof read all my stuff, and it was not until I read Barry's note that I look again. Oh dear. Must have been freudian - with the words 'ill' and 'well'. Maybe I should have said 'hill;' and now 'levelled out' but of course the hill would not be.

very sorry, guys and thanks for pointing it out. Will correct it! (when I can find the correct button)

Just realised I could have laid claim to be very witty and say it was a deliberate play on words - The Green Ill cemetery is now well. But that would be a lie!

Well, I am obviously pleased for those who are now able to visit and that the storm damage has been repaired so quickly.

However, as Marion says I the road is only suitable for off road vehicles, I am afraid for myself (and probably others) I am really very distressed that as a driver of an elderly saloon car (who wouldnt want a four wheel drive even if I could afford it) and with personal mobility problems, I am not able to attend funerals or even pay a visit to a memorial I arranged for my own loved ones, and feel very ostracised.

don't feel too badly RR. i am in the same position as you. Unless I am given a lift, I cannot get up there. it is just a fact. Our four wheel drive died and we cannot replace it, and I am the only driver. But I know in time the road will be fixed - it is just a question of time, and there are promises that it will be done when the moslem cemetery is ready (so I believe). In the mean time, do not feel ostracised - as I say, there are many of us in the same position. but of course with the repairs now done, it does mean that anyone who has a 4 wheel drive can at least take others up there. |it was totally impossible after the storm.

Sorry Marion, but I do! I we're not the only ones, but I feel that there is someone wrong if one has to beg for a lift (particularly for those of us who live on the other side of Kyrenia that is not all that easy)) to enable one to pay one's respects to the departed, because one hasnt got, or even doesnt want an expensive vehicle.

Eventually managed to get up to the cemetery today with my friend to visit our loved ones.It is still necessary to use a 4 wheel drive as the track is still quite muddy. It does appear to have had some gravel laid, but is still rough.I was delighted to see that the graves all looked fine. The cemetery committee have done a great job in restoring them to normal and replacing ornament etc,Many thanks to them all.
As there are a few large houses being built within a few hundred meters of the cemetery, lets hope that a road is going to be tarmaced in order to give access to these new properties. This must surely be done in order to be able sell them?

I suspect that the road will be perfect as and when the authorities start to bury locals in the land designated for Muslim Burials. "heaven only knows" when that'll be!!
