Can anyone help me with this? I am looking to get our Metric Kocan. Is there any specific paperwork I need to take with me? Is it just the old Kocan and passports? Also where do I get it from?

Many thanks
Tracy

We are based in Alsancak and we went to the Tapu in Girne, just past the State Hospital. Just took our old Kocan and went back the next day to collect metric one. Cost 42tl. Don’t think we needed passports, but take just in case.

I did the same recently. They did need a photocopy of the passports of the persons who are named on the original kochan.
If you do not have copies then you can get a copy made in the building opposite, ground floor turn left to the "coffee room" next to the office where you get the Gas Certificate, cost 1.5TL.

When you go into the Tapu (Land Registry) office ignore the queues directly in front of you and go to the guy on the far right desk, next to the lady at the payment window.

All in all a quick and simple process.

Do they take back the old style kocan or do you get to keep it?

Hope they don't take back the old one, after all that's the one that's causing the most problems and would need it to argue with!!

They did keep the old one - but I had already made very good colour photocopies of it beforehand.

Could someone clarify what a metric Kocan is please. What is the purpose of it and why needed?

Not heard of this before.

Thanks

PiD. The TRNC Government introduced the requirement for 'metric' measurement, I think late in 2018. It would seem that sales of property will not be accepted if the kocan is in donums anymore. Check with your advocate, a notary or your local Tapu for factual information buddy.

Yes, that's my understanding too, if you want to sell your property you need to get the metric version.

PiD they came around all the properties and re-measured, with their lasor guided device on a pole. Was quite a treat to watch as our garden and those of the neighbours either side are dense with trees. I`m quite confident that they`ll have plotted our garden out as a 15 point zig-zag.
