Mask Rules and Quarantine - what's the latest?
Does anyone know where I can locate the latest advice on:
1. the new rules on wearing a mask in public, as I have been told you risk being fined if you do not wear a mask;
2. the current situation if you are flying into Ercan from the UK - do you need to quarantine or not?
3. are tourists able to fly to the South and cross the border?
There seems to be so many conflicting views, is there any official website with the current information available?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Mask Rules and Quarantine - what's the latest?
There are no new rules for wearing a mask. It is the same rule it has been since it was introduced. You have to wear one if you are out of the house in public.
You do have to quarantine for 7 days at home 'if' you are a home owner but at a hotel if you are not.
You can not cross from the South unless you are a citizen. You 'may' be able to cross at Pyla but you will not be allowed to cross back into the South from anywhere at the moment.
BRS offer all the latest information but you have to be a member to see it all. http://www.brstrnc.com/images/stories/U ... es3579.pdf
If you are on Facebook look at https://www.facebook.com/groups/4420565 ... SEARCH_BOX. There is a lot of stuff on there and generally it is kept to fact as opposed to rumour.

Re: Mask Rules and Quarantine - what's the latest?
Thanks Chris that's really helpful.
These days there seems to be so many "versions" of the rules and people are definitely not sticking to the mask rule.
I was told today that there is a 900TL fine if you don't wear your mask in public places - I think restaurants are exempt for obvious reasons but I generally try to avoid them at the moment.
Many thanks and stay safe.

Re: Mask Rules and Quarantine - what's the latest?
I have a customer who rents out their house pays tax therefore registered in the system who has holiday guests arriving, booked last year who are arriving via Ercan, I have copied your message and links as I am now concerned their holiday visitors maybe stuck in a hotel room. I must admit as they will be the only occupiers I did think with a letter from the owner it would of been ok as we have already discussed the self isolation, shopping requirements, gardener, pool, water supply to the house, internet, electric items etc but i never mentioned the fact they were not home owners.Chriswright03 wrote: ↑Fri 14 Aug 2020 7:19 pm

reference Masks most places have a big sign on the door stating wear a mask , therefore if you disagree don't enter, its rude manners! not to wear one when it states very clearly to wear one. i for one are fed up with the excuse, others aren't and i do feel sorry for any shop / office worker who approaches these people.

Can't see driving with no mask a problem, go into a local police station and you will be required to wear a mask for health reasons as most of them are smoking under the No Smoming signs.

No I think we might be going a bit OTT if we start posting the my god I saw someone driving without a mask.
I'd be inclined to reply well don't jump in their car at a red light. In fact that might not be a bad idea even if the virus somehow disappears and life goes back to normal

ETS, there's still a few of the older generation who are inclined to hop into your car uninvited if you pause at a road junction - I think that it harks back to the days when it was assumed that everyone would give anyone else a lift, and there was no reason to ask
I've had it happen to me in Girne...

Not had that yet and I like to think I have a warm and approachable persona.
I don’t but I like to think I do.
Keith, re the incident in Girne, your ‘uninvited’ guest wasn’t wearing a leather mini skirt and fishnets? This is your best opportunity to give your version, I promise not to pick holes.

What about people hiring a villa? There is no guidance on this although I think there would be less chance of passing on the virus if staying in a villa rather than an hotel.Chriswright03 wrote: ↑Fri 14 Aug 2020 7:19 pmYou do have to quarantine for 7 days at home 'if' you are a home owner but at a hotel if you are not.

It's an idea. Can you guarantee the villa owner will do the right thing? Knows what is expected from them for the customers pushed their way. A nods as good as a wink, nudge nudge.

Sadly, no...
... He did look to be at least 80 years old, and had a complexion best described as 'A la Sid James', so even the addition of said accoutrements would have done little to improve his chances...
We never even got as far as 'How far do you want to go' because after a few hundred yards, he imperiously waved his hand towards the pavement, and alighted.
I still don't know whether he had arrived at his intended destination or had simply given up on me

It may have been the case that you were driving with both hands on the wheel and your mobile phone was out of sight that unnerved him?

Not the old is that a mobile phone in your pocket or are you pleased to see me ploy?
I dunno, Keith’s version has holes. The inadvertent mention of Sid James that well known saucy Carry On actor. He may crack under further qvestioning.

As the villa owner, I know know exactly what is required for cleaning between and after hires and what procedures our agent (and her cleaners) has put in place, including the sanitising of the aircon, etc. I am more concerned about how the TRNC government views tourists quarantining in private villas.EnjoyingTheSun wrote: ↑Mon 17 Aug 2020 3:36 pmIt's an idea. It was an attempt at humour. I’ve always been interested at how the government decides what hotels get the guaranteed quarantine custom. Doing the right thing means something different where I’m from. A bit like give em a drink has more than 1 meaning.SussexBoy wrote: ↑Mon 17 Aug 2020 5:45 pm

KC, people indicating to slow down your car reminds me of a case about 16 years ago. We'd only gone about 500yds up the Bellapaise Road to the Altenkaya Hotel and an old dear indicated for us to stop. She opened the back door, got in , holding a hen in a basket which she plonked down beside her. She indicated to move on so we did. She hadn't said a word. Every few hundred yards we went to slow down to let her out and she indicated to keep going. We ended up outside the Tree of Idleness. She got out, carting the wicker basked with a by now unhappy chicken flapping away. We hadn't intended to visit the Monastery that day but heigh ho!! (What this has got to do with mask I have no idea) Blame it on KC, it's usually his fault.

Infamy! Infamy! - They've all got it In for Me!
Honestly, I never went off topic - we were discussing wearing masks outside of the home weren't we?
- and the question arose as to whether you needed to wear a mask in your car - yes?
What if you were alone in your car? - and then someone hopped into the car unexpectedly?
I merely illustrated that such an occurrence can happen, and gave an example.
The defence rest their case

I can go one better than that! an old lady (who lives at the end of our road) was standing by the side of the road near the municipality with loads of bags. At the time we had our Sedona, i slid the back door open physically picked her up as it is a high vehicle and she is small, piled in the bags and whizzed her off to her house with her muttering away, unloaded her and bags and off i went on my way. Next thing the lady from the shop near the municipality rang to say they appreciated me giving the lady a lift but she was actually going to her shop for lunch!!!! I was amazed they knew who had picked her up but how to get my phone number, and when i asked oh we call you coc deli uc tane kopek lady!sophie wrote: ↑Tue 18 Aug 2020 7:55 amKC, people indicating to slow down your car reminds me of a case about 16 years ago. Take a look at the topic:-
U.K. moving to Group B on the 15th August
The latest communication from the Council of Ministers from yesterday 18th August is posted. It is an English translation posted in good faith.
As always it’s a long read and raises many questions.
