Soner, overeating is definitely a problem for me here at some of the restaurants, by the time I've waded through the meze and then get presented with a week's worth of meat, not to mention a desert. If the food wasn't very nice it wouldn't be a problem but I just have to try and eat everything.

zarafet, I put this up for Marion as she had a meeting with OA.
But hey, I have a problem in that I watch my wife eat and I put on the weight.

actually, it is admission time. I admit I asked soner to put this on, cos my technical ability would not go far enough. But this is veryserious stuff. This organisaiton has helped thousands o people world wide who cannot deal with their food addiction (or even bulimia and anorexia), and finally there is help at hand in North Cyprus for any one who needs confidential help. OA has already help some people here in North Cyprus and are so happoy with their lives that they would love to help others.

Just seen Soner's posting and I have the same problem - well used to (and by the way I have not personally been helped by OA here, but I know what it is to be overweight and hate oneself). I need only smell chocolate and I put on a kilo!) But it is not just a matter of self control and will power, it is a bit like being an alcoholic except that none of us can do without food - so far more difficult to get a true balance on things.
soner's wife, by the way, is a beautiful petite lady (the kind I just HATE), so maybe it is time for soner to stop watching Kam eat - then he won't be putting on weight. But find someone to watch him to put weight on. something to do with transference.
Oh and you can read far more about the organisation in this week's Cyprus Star.

Re: Is this for you? Help is at hand.
I just looked at their website and decided it definitely is not for me!!!!!!! I'm not a believer in god, but I definitely could not imagine, that if there was a god , he would help all fat people who ask for his help. maybe he would tell us we are meant to be fat.
We are told, that if an innocent child is born with a disability, it's god's will, he moves in mysterious ways!!!
This will save you looking them up.,
If these steps suits you, go ahead
The Twelve Steps of Overeaters Anonymous
1We admitted we were powerless over food — that our lives had become unmanageable.
2Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5Admitted to God, to ourselves and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8Made a list of all persons we had harmed and became willing to make amends to them all.
9Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong, promptly admitted it.
11Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God as we understood Him, praying only for
knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to compulsive overeaters and practice these principles in all our affairs.

Re: Is this for you? Help is at hand.
Valid view dippersgirl, but remember we are all different. I beat my problem, myself, and others use slimming clubs, stomach band operations and other ways, but OA is for those who have more emotional problems which leads to compulsive eating, or addiciton to food etc. And I believe that when the 12 steps talks about asking God to help remove their defects - it is defects of the mind, NOT the body. I firmly believe that God does not send bad thing,s they are part of our imperfect world. I used to believe that everything created by god /the creator/ whatever was perfect, but obviously history proves otherwise.
At the end of the day, whatever helps others to overcome the seeming impossible, then it is right for them. The world has proved that OA is for many, and people must decide for themselves.
As I say, I am not a member and nor (thank heavens/God) I don't need to be, but I do believe it is of help to many.
(Oh and I had a HUGE problem - a size 32 problem, as it happens.
