Hi all,

does car insurance cover me to drive a friends car with his permission whilst he is away?
I understand the car itself and third parties are insured so should be ok?

thanks

Assuming you hold a valid TRNC driving license…

You can drive your friend’s car if the policy states “any driver” or if the policy is revised to include your details as an additional “named driver”, otherwise, no.

You would be well advised to have with the car insurance documents a letter / note from the policy holder giving you permission to drive the vehicle, particularly if you are driving under “any driver” status.

If you are resident in the TRNC you need a TRNC driving license. Same as if you are resident (as a non UK national) in the UK you need to take a UK driving license.

Short stays in the TRNC, a UK driving license is sufficient to drive here.
