I would be very surprised if that date was kept? A friend of ours had a tour of the airport recently, the head of the contractors told them September was the opening date however, it was more likely to be January next year at the earliest.

Did you hear that ,” said the old uncle in the coffee house, stretching out on three wicker chairs: “ They forgot to build a customs house at the new airport. ” The young man, holding a steel tray in his hand, interrupted, “ Where are they going to take a nap now…” The radio was playing old friends, “One by one the forgotten…”*** Kaynak: Anlatırken tut elimi - Cenk Mutluyakalı

Well, the President of Turkey WILL land at Ercan New Airport on the 20th of July, because he has said so! Then again, I don’t think he bothers with customs very much so he probably won’t notice the whole thing is not finished anyway - lol.

"...a place for customs and police would be temporarily arranged in the existing building".

So you land at the new airport, then somehow go to / get taken to the old airport to go through customs and get a clip round the ear ((W))

We could always use the existing customs at Gecitkale - just a bus ride away - or just reopen Gecitkale save all the money! It worked well back in the day and you did not have to wait long to pick your bags up off the airfield either.

Was that before they built a line of electricity pylons across the approach to the runway, or have I missed something? :)
