TAC and you actually think it makes no difference, particularly as its a new party. Oh well, it takes all sorts.

Yes, I am interested as I live here permanently and any change here will have a direct effect upon my life. Out of interest, what sort of comments are you looking for as you have not made any yourself about the new President?
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

I'm going to try and read up if I can find sufficient translations ( about his thoughts and aspirations) All I get now from Locals who from their remarks ( and clearly didn't vote for him) is that he wants a conjoined Cyprus and they want closer ties with the Mainland. More than that I haven't had the time to go into. A change of party will almost certainly have a bearing on relationships with foreigners. But I know not what!! Locals might have been pulling my leg of course. They do that sort of thing!!

Different views at the moment but this might give you an idea....he has also been described as a dreamer caught up in the past and without vision.benjaminbutton wrote: ↑Thu 23 Oct 2025 3:50 pmI'm going to try and read up if I can find sufficient translations ( about his thoughts and aspirations) All I get now from Locals who from their remarks ( and clearly didn't vote for him) is that he wants a conjoined Cyprus and they want closer ties with the Mainland. I read an interesting article yesterday that said anyone thinking the new President is solely about federation and returning to old negotiations has totally missed the plot. The author saw this change as the opportunity to highlight to the world that it's the GCs that are preventing a solution, and when they fail to deliver or walk away again, there will be justification for lifting embargoes and ultimately treating the north as a separate entity. We shall see...

I read the same article, could be a case of "Be careful what you wish for...." for the GC side? They take over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union from the 1st of January, the spotlight will be on them.

Are not all past, present and future Presidents caught up in the same problem of “Occupation”? There is peace on the Island but only due to a current “Cease Fire” agreement. The “Intervention” was conceivably followed by an “Invasion” some weeks later, creating a state of war between the RoC and Turkey that still exists. Therefore, the Northern part of Cyprus, known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, is under the occupation and control of Turkey at this time.
Given that the above holds true then, even through the TRNC has produced its own Government it is only allowed to “Play” at being in control of its own destiny by Turkey? Both the Presidents of the RoC and the TRNC can agree on what they wish to happen however, should Turkey disagree with either then the wish’s will not come to fruition! As Turkey has already stated that the idea of Federation is now behind them there can only be two outcomes - Two States or annexation by Turkey! Whichever happens Turkey have agin stated that they will always be a guarantor power for the Turkish Cypriots!
I think that the RoC taking over the Presidency of the EU Council is laughable given the way in which they were allowed to join the EU in the first place. The RoC President, who has a popularity of only 40% of his citizens, thinks he will be able to bring the power of the EU to bear on the Cyprus problem yet he seems to have forgotten that the rest of the EU view Cyprus as an irritation not a World power. He has a lot of work in front of him with his own countries problem being just a minor percentage of it. I also feel that if he makes a mistake here Greece will drop him like a hot potato as they wish to be a lot more friendly with Turkey these days!
We live, once again, in interesting times.

Really interesting comments, especial that from Dalartokat. I suppose we can all dream provided the dreams don't reach Nightmare proportions. All I want are my Title Deeds. After 21 years I feel it's my due!!

The last poll said tatar would win by 2%. He lost by a landslide...
Erhuman has political equality as a red line & a fixed timescale to negotiations..
"Erhürman, who stated that the clause of "not returning to the current status quo" was included in the report of former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan, noted the following:
"That report clearly states, 'After the 'yes' vote of the Turkish Cypriots, there is no longer any legitimate justification for the isolation of the Turkish Cypriots.' But that report did not and could not go to the UN Security Council because it was vetoed at the time. Had it gone, the call for the lifting of the isolation imposed on us would have become a call to the UN Security Council. How do I know, for example, that the same thing will not happen again? That's why my demand is a commitment to this from the outset."
Looks unlikely imo...wants talks & if the greeks walk away or theres no agreement wants international recognition...perhaps this is actually all Erdogans plan as Erhuman has the backing here..
