LOST POSTS: Calling Mods/ADmin
I know I sounded a bit patronising of Marion when she mentioned lost posts: sorry Marion,I was trying to be helpful
But this evening I lost two posts on subjects important to me and on which I had spent time I could ill afford.
It wasnt what I suggeste to Marion (similtaneous posts) because that message did not come up - which I pressed send it shot back to the "wait 5 secs to access notice" and when I got back had wiped my post.
With due respect this is very frustrating and a disincentive to serious posters who may not have all that much time and not be techo wizzards
Too late now to replace.

Re: LOST POSTS: Calling Mods/ADmin
I did not see your comments as patronising - can't even remember what they were. But it seems if there is a long gap then when one clicks on submit, one gets that 5 seconds wait thingamy . then as you say it gets lost. I appreciate, as I am sure you do that the introduction of this is toprevent hackers, so the only person who can really answer your query is Soner himself.
Actually it happened to me twice recently, so the second version was far, far, shorter than the first.
so Soner - could you throw some light on this please.

If writing a long piece, click on save draft then continue. Alternatively write in another application like MS Word then copy and paste into forum.

Alternatively just before you post highlight it, click copy then post the message. If you lose it it you will then be able to paste it again.
Some are wise and some otherwise.....

Re: LOST POSTS: Calling Mods/ADmin
Glad you took it in the spirit it was intended Marion.
I cant find "draft" - I have spent ages looking before and gave up assumng there wasnt one. Please could someone explain where it is andhow it works.
I dont mind the delay in getting in, Marion, I understand the hacking problem. But I came on when I was already in and trying to post and I seem to have endless other probs.
I just send a post (thread about the viper) : it told me there was another post: I clicked send anway and found I had send a duplicate post. I clicked edit and then cancel on the second post but three tries and it still would not. Now it is getting late and I still havent got to water the garden, and I really came on to warn about a poisoned cat and havnt time.
I know about wrtiing on notebook - maybe OK for designing an official notice etc. - but time consuming particularlyfor someone who has painful fingers isnt really comfortable with the internet and short of time and spoils spontenuity Shoudl it really be necessary?

Re: LOST POSTS: Calling Mods/ADmin
Rose,I had a similar problem to you,I was losing half written posts because the site was timing out on me which was frustrating.
I believe it is partly because of the scumbag hackers that Soner was plagued with a week or two back which rendered the site offline for periods of time, and as a result Soner introduced software which timed you out after a while.
Rose, you need to ask Soner very nicely if he will twiddle with your account settings from his end (as he kindly did with mine)which will cure your problem.
In conclusion Rose, you need to ask Soner to give you a twiddle.

Re: LOST POSTS: Calling Mods/ADmin
Hi all, I think the main issue of timing out is to do with internet connection. As you know the more people on the internet the slower the service at times.
As suggested, use the save draft button next to the submit button if writing long post. Also, what sometimes works when you are timed out is to use the "Back arrow" button at the top of your browser, you will find that your post is still in place and you just need to "submit" again.
I have also noticed that this can happen when 2 people post at exactly the same time on a thread. Again just go back and re-submit.
Finally, if you have too many documents open on your computer this can slow the performance and/or make it "freeze" (Not sure if I used the correct wording here as have a feeling Philoz will take advantage of it, no doubt), causing you to be logged out. If this happens, just re-start your computer - I do this quite often due to bad habit of not closing files when working. When there is a freeze, avoid constantly clicking, this just adds to the problem as your computer is struggling to perform requests already made.
Hope this helps.

Re: LOST POSTS: Calling Mods/ADmin
I wonder of Rose feels suitably 'twiddled'? Hope so. What soner says makes sense, although (hate to contradict him) I sometimes use the back button, but it is gone, gone, gone. However, worth a try!
Maybe we all expect too much of our computers and modern technology - a bit like th emedical profession - never allowed to make mistakes.
Happy Kibkoming, all.

Re: LOST POSTS: Calling Mods/ADmin
Soner,I have no intention of correcting you.
You are quite right that having lots of web pages and or other applications open and running can slow your computer to a crawl,or indeed make it 'Freeze'.
Rather than re-booting(which can take a while, try pressing 'ctrl+Alt+delete all at the same time, this will bring up the 'Windows Task Manager' Console-If you click on the 'Applications' tab you can see what you have running and selectively shut programs and applications down from there.
You can also shut down programs that are 'Not responding' from there too.
Hope this helps

Re: LOST POSTS: Calling Mods/ADmin
Thanks for that philoz, that's what I do, but just sometimes that doesn't work, but I think it is a good first step to solving the problem, as it often does.
I think we are all on a learning curve here. when I was in Kent I taught software, but relied on the technical staff to see to things when computers did not behave. But I am no longer at Mid Kent College, and no longer have any back up technical staff, so I am always happy to learn new tricks. Guess thart goes for all of us.

Phioloz, good advice indeed, I use this too but only when an app is not responding. I prefer to "restart" computer, go get a cuppa then restart myself.

Re: LOST POSTS: Calling Mods/ADmin
Thanks for the suggestions - but none work for me. With the greatest respect and sympathy for Soners problems, I come here for info and discussion and because I like writing - and to relieve stress if only as a cojnter irritant!!!! But I am not interested in technology and there is life apart from the internet and if the cost is three evenings spent mainly sitting in front of a screen jiggling with difficult controls , just cound me out. Sroyy but life is too short and if ever I get time for a new learnig curve I am going to try to improve my Turkish.
Please see the "Why are peole leaving he TRNC thread". THREE of us have lost posts as well as one on another thread this evening. Also I got the duplicate post thing again and now way can I figure out how to cancelit.
Yours

Rose, I have added your IP to a Safe list, not much more I can think of doing. Let me know how you get on, alternatively the only thing I can suggest is trying to use a different Browser.
