About 8.30pm the power went off in Malatya.
I opened the front door to see the extent of the outage, to be greeted by the sight of huge flames across the road.
It appears the high winds downed the overhead power line(s) which dropped into high grass igniting them.
Kibtek and the fire brigade turned up after half an hour, by which time the fire had died out.
Given the high winds, we were lucky buildings and surrounding grassy areas didn't go up in flames.

Re: Fire in Malatya
Wow. wondered why I came home to total blackness having left the lights of Alsancak blazing away. Saw a fire engine at the bottom of the hill and when i got home I saw a lot of water down the road, and assumed the fire had been in the village, but oculd not see quite where. Only just got the electric back, .
Thanks for telling us what happened! could have been much worse, as you say.
