Re: ramazan 2013
As Andrew wrote, the first day of fasting starts tomorrow. It will continue until Wednesday, August 7th. A large number of people in TR of NC will be fasting ... even amongst the TC community ... at least for the first few days.
Although most of the Kibkom members do not fast, some of us might like to know the times for the breaking of the fast, which is called the "iftar" - because, for example, you might be wondering the best times to stay off the roads ... or when to visit the restaurants to avoid the "iftar rush" ... or you might want to know when to start the barbeque so as not to annoy your hungry neighbour.
In any case, on the attachment below you can see these times in red under "İftar Akşam". If, for any reason, you can't see the attachment properly, then let me tell you that for the start of Ramazan the iftar occurs at about 8.15pm and by the end of Ramazan it's at about 5 to 8.

Re: ramazan 2013
Am sitting here listening to Arabic TV now and there's still no confirmed sighting of the new crescent. The sighting of the moon is the proper way to confirm Ramadan but of course Turkey have this system of 'scientific calculation' which is followed in this country.
I won't be starting my fasting until the official start, and generally muslims (apart from the Turks) won't do either. I was talking to a Pakistani today and he reckons we're expecting Ramadan to start properly on Thursday or Friday.
Allah O Alim! (ie, God knows best).
